Eliza Holland
Pediatric hospitalist, University Medical Center
Age: 35
Community involvement: Imago Dei Middle School, board member, running team trainer; El Rio Community Health Center, pediatrician
Book on your bedside table: Sophie's Choice by William Styron
Best advice you could give: You cannot take care of others unless you take care of yourself.
Proudest professional accomplishment: In 2002, El Rio opened two school-based health clinics in Sunnyside School District. As one of the first pediatricians to staff these sites, I helped establish and strengthen the ties between these clinics and the greater Sunnyside community.
A word from the nominator: "Some people are concerned about walking the walk; others step up the pace and run. . . . I trust that, in the coming years, we will continue to see more from Eliza as she sets an example for others - students, patients, friends, neighbors, colleagues and family - of combating an epidemic of childhood obesity, work-life balance, healthy living, appreciating life, and more." - Terry Babcock-Lumish, president, Islay Consulting and 2006 40 Under 40 winner
